Today, 1st October is International Coffee Day. Enjoyed the world over, the event celebrates the people behind your cup of coffee, from farm to cup, and everything in between.

Here on the Island, we are lucky to have two great coffee businesses serving up great tasting, local coffee.

Island Roasted Coffee

Island Roasted, the producers behind popular Caffe Isola, began over ten years ago when Dan and his family realised there was very little support for the speciality coffee industry, and that they knew more than their suppliers. After importing coffee machines and training baristas, they took the step of acquiring their own roaster and began roasting their own blend – Island Roasted was born. Today, the team still hand roast the coffees in small batches, using drum roasters to allow the coffee time to develop its true flavour. Only the highest quality are sourced from farms typically producing anything from 6 sacks to about 300sacks per year as opposed to big brand names who need tens of thousands of sacks.
Today, you can enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee at their flagship cafe, Caffe Isola in the heart of Newport.

You have probably seen Jaspers Coffee serving their tasty blend from their Turkish roaster housed in an old French Citroen H Van! A favourite at many events, they  use high quality and ethically sourced speciality green beans. Jasper’s signature Coffee is the Buxom Espresso Blend, which won a 2015 Great Taste Award. A blend of Brazilian, Sumatran, Colombian and Indian beans roasted to bring out their natural sweetness.
